Since it is difficult to detect bed bugs, it is often easier to look for signs of an infestation. Check your home for the following issues.
- Check your room for blood stains. Bed bugs tend to leave small blood spots when they are squashed after feeding.
- You will also find their exoskeletons around your home since they shed. The exoskeletons look like bed bugs, but they are translucent.
- Bed bugs leave eggs and casings around a house. They are not easy to see because the eggs are tiny. They are about the size of a dot. Use a flashlight to locate them.
- When Bed Bugs eat, they will have to use the bathroom. In doing so, they will leave little black spots on your furniture, clothes, and sheets. The droppings will resemble inkblots.
- You may find bed bug bite marks on your skin. Be sure to check the parts of your body that touch the bed when you sleep. For example, your arms, hands, back and face may have red welts.
- You can also smell Bed Bugs. They tend to emit a musty smell. A sweet, musty odor can be a sign that you have a bed bug infestation.
